These days, snakes are everywhere. We already know that because we are living in California. Rattle snakes are in the building where we work. One was just run over by a colleague who would not even kill a fly. She thinks all creatures are here for a grand purpose. But with the release of the recent movie, Snakes on a Plane, we start seeing snakes everywhere we turn. Snakes used to be the pets of some eccentric guys. They are usually found in places you would not expect them to be. There is this love and hate relationships with snakes. A snake charmer found on Hollywood boulevard and on the streets of India or most Asian countries, will tell you that snakes are easy to handle. They will also make you believe that you should not fear snakes.

No matter what people or snake lovers may tell you, from the book of Genesis in the garden of Eden to the eastern diamondback rattlesnake found in Indiana Jones movie and Samuel Jackson's Snakes on a Plane, snakes cause people to panic and act in odd ways. The snakes that exist in California, Brasil, the Caribbean slither. Their slithering is enough to cause people to have a heart attack. Where do we see snakes in the small or big screens? Vinson shows a Far Side cartoons pictures where a guy was surrounded by snakes. In the movie, Indiana Jones, Actor Harrison Ford, comes face-to-face with a cobra in a Raiders of the Lost Ark. Snakes are impressive animals that live amongst us.

What about the fear of snakes? It is called ophidiophobia. It is the type of fear that one seeks to overcome. It is the type of fear that prevents people from living normally in their own home and leading active lives in their own back yard. It is the fear that can be caused by a Colombian boa constrictor, albino corn snake, ball python. Keep in mind these may not be the poisonous snakes such as rattlers, copperheads, cottonmouths and coral snakes.
